Derek,

I am willing to volunteer in tracking this issue with a debug build of XMetal 6 for testing under W7-x64.
You have my email address to notify me on getting that version 🙂

Q.

Yups. I have already initiated migration to Xmetal 8. The trial version behaves okay.

With regard to the  Xmetal 6, the freezing issue may seem to be overcome by clearing the UserAppDataLocalTemp dir.

Looks like we did add some functionality into CSSToXSL.dll around the time of the 5.0 release. There are a couple of additional functions it now contains related to duplicating folder tree structures and files. That is usually done before handing them over to the DITA OT for processing, so when generating output using the DITA OT this DLL does in fact get called.

We don't know specifically if it is this Windows API that is causing the issues for you because we can't reproduce the problem in-house yet. If you want to help track this down XMetaL Support may be able to provide you with a debug build that you could run to provide information back to XMetaL development.

I am experiencing carmstrong's issue also on todays newly delivered and configured Hp laptop (Win7 x64, XMetal 6.0.1.030).
Posting the screendump of process information of my analysis.

Answer from DESSCI:
– First insert (or ) element from Element List;
– Position cursor in that element;
– Then select menu item: MathFlow > Insert Equation (or Ctrl-Alt-Q);
– Equation editor opens;
– Press OK to save and render formula.

Placing the equation element yourself isn't obvious, at first.

Issue closed.

I verified and ensured user A was added to Local Administrators usergroup.
I backed up his personal DITA_OT dir. Then reinstalled XMetaL 6 as user A. Restored his DITA_OT dir.
On my first tests afterward, the issue did not occur.  The resource manager seemed to behave stable.

Original connection error dialog problem was RESOLVED.
– by deleting (better: renaming) the personal cache directories
(Windows7)    %PROGRAMDATA%XMetalXMConector_Cache     into   _

– Thank you for referring to this guide. It explains a lot to me.

– I must conclude that, a windows user is stuck to a single sharepoint connection account. In a enterprise (microsoft) environment this is sensible for domain users. In my case, the sharepoint server is in the other, customer domain with different accounts.
– I guess the single connector cache is also not capable of handling the same files fetched under different shp-users contexts.

Derek,

– I am into investigating usage of XmetaL on a shared pc by multiple authors. Are you telling me the Sharepoint adapter is not designed/capable of handling this use case? Best workaround would then be a shared user acount on that pc right?

– Where should the cleanup_tools dir be located, on cdrom perhaps? All i have is the installer XMetaL_Author_Enterprise_6-SP_Edition.exe ?

– Is there more documentation on the purpose of properties useWindowsUsername
and customUserDomainName in config file
%APPDATA%SoftQuadXmetal6.0CRCLconfigssharepoint.xml

– Is it a feature to have multiple AdapterInstances configured and somehow switch among instance configurations? Or is it intended for handling connections to multiple sharepoint servers?.

Three suggestions
1) Read windows event logs

2) Enable logging
### Unappropriate use of undocumented feature

3) Active monitoring
Use the ProcessMonitor application from the free SysInternals-suite (http://www.sysinternals.com) to watch the active XMetal application.

Hoping it gives a clue.

Using the 'good' account, i did manage to open the Sharepoint repository by switching user to the failing account. That worked, so access is possible.

But how to get the session context back to the former account? Calling the Open Repository again does not give me the dialog with user-switch option ??

Reply To: can’t insert specialized topics into a map – resolved

I had the same problem with MathML specialization.
And tracked the cause to be in file
      C:Program FilesXMetaL 6.0AuthorDITAXACsdita_xac_catalog_specialized.xml

A value entered in dialog Tools.Select_DITA specialization is appended to this file as a new element.
Strangely, there were literal “nt” strings embedded (Viewed with Notepad++).
This is what i found:

nt-//DESSCI//DTD DITA with MathML Composite//ENntdita_mathmlntDitaDocHandlerntditabasenn

I removed all “nt” , et voila, adding the specialized topic to the ditamap was now enabled!

I recently upgraded to Xmetal 6.0.2.070 which does not not seem to accept these spurious strings. Although it should neatly handle only the xml elements.
