Any way around this you can't think of without upgrading?

Thanks Derek, that was it.
The only this better would be if I replaced the text with the same number of charaters. Is there a way to count text length? So if the element was
petersthen I would replace it with 6 XXXXXX 's XXXXXX

OK, that works fine. I guess I have to turn the read only bit back off upon file close. IS pressing the X in the upper right run the same code as File, Close? If not, how would I set the read only bit back?

Thanks, I'll look at this.
My goal is to let users open a file without being able to change anything. (At least not save changes back) They just want to view a file, maybe cut some text from it. Currently LCS (Kirsten's group) has code in there that updates the
element and element even is you just open the file to look.pszwec February 24, 2010 at 7:54 pm

I anticipated that thinking and that's why I tried to remove 5.5 and put it back on without Kirsten's customizations. But the uninstall failed as I mentioned. Do you have n XMClean for 5.5pszwec November 18, 2009 at 8:02 pm

OK, will do.
Just one more bit of info…
It's mainly File open. With no files open XMetal is not running our customized file open, it is running a “default” file open to the file system. When we have any files open (Bill or Amendment) and we do a file open it does execute the correct customized file open.

Reply To: Global View Doesn’t Work when IE8 is your only browser on the PCJuly 7, 2009 at 1:58 pmParticipants 0Replies 9Last Activity 12 years, 5 months ago
It turns out that it was a permissions issue. Users now don't have write or modify on the root of their C: drive. When you pick Global view in 4.6 it either need to rewrtie or modify temp.xml that sits on the root.
Nothing to do with IE 8.
