    I was able to remove the cid attributes by updating the SDL Tridion Docs write plugin configuration.
    The issue with selecting conrefs still persists.

    We were able to resolve the issue by unregistering XMetaL (using the XMetaL 8 unregister executable provided by Just Systems) and then repairing XMetaL (via Programs and Features).

    XMetaL Support helped McAfee with this issue, which is fixed in XMetaL9+ (our situation is likely similar to yours – we plan to upgrade soon, but can't right now). We were seeing one or both of the following during XMetaL8 installs:

    * Registration failed – *request refused by* licensing server.
        This was an issue with recent Windows security updates preventing the install program from running one or more licensing web services.
        A temporary workaround allows the install program to circumvent those security updates (applies only to the install, then things can go back to normal).  I can send the procedure to you offline, if you like.

    * Registration failed – *could not connect to* licensing server.
        This was an issue with Windows proxy settings, which was fixed by updating those settings in IE Tools | Internet Options.

    Hope this helps…

    Thanks Addam! I heard that Acrolinx is working on a potential fix. Also moving to XMetaL 9 might solve the issue, but SDL doesn't claim support for XMetaL 9 in Live Content Architect 2013, so we'd be on the hook for an upgrade there. We'll figure something out…
    when you say “upload the modified .tbr files to the SDL server,” do you mean that each user's .tbr file would need to reside on their application server? Or just one set of tbr's for everyone?

    When I've seen CMS bridge inconsistencies from user to user, they're almost always related to local file/folder permissions. I would ask the user to unset the readonly bit on the C:UsersusernameAppData folder and apply down the hierarchy, and also ensure that they're windows login has full write permissions. Same with C:Program Files (x86)XMetaL 6.0Author, then exit and restart XMetaL to see if the behavior changes.

    Just a quick follow up, looks like the attached fxitems.xml was customized for us, to enable the drag/drop functionality.

    Looking a lot better now Derek, thanks!!

    * ResourceManager.AddTab(“Assets”,””); would not work in XMetaL 8 either. Returns a message saying tab could not be loaded.
    * Your suggestion about displaying the html splash page directly worked great. It involved renaming the Assets tab and changing this line:
      msie.Navigate(“file:///c:/Program Files/XMetaL 8.0/Author/Assets/My Assets/fxindex.htm”);

    Only thing is, we were able to drag and drop the table depictions in fxindex.htm directly into xml (called out separately in imbedded .txt documents) into the content, which now I cannot do. I'll have to look into what's happening there.

    Thanks again for the help!!

    If you're using XMetaL without a CMS, the XACs (css, mcr, etc.) files are in:
    C:Program Files (x86)XMetaL 6.0AuthorDITAXACs

    If you're using XMetaL with a CMS, the CMS redefines the local location for css files, so you should check with your CMS vendor.

    Thanks as always, Derek. Can you tell me where in C:Userswindows-useridAppData the XMetaL preview function must write? I'm using a CMS with XMetaL integration, which downloadsupdates from our internal central server to C:Userswindows-useridAppDataRoamingSoftQuadXMetaL Shared with no worries. That's why it's strange that the preview can't work with our permissions on C:Userswindows-useridAppData. Is there a service account that's trying to access that folder?

    Many thanks for any additional help you can give, as this is impacting over 200 users.

    Thanks Derek. We're not using a Japanese IME. We're typing Japanese characters directly into XMetaL's tags-on authoring view, using Japanese character keyboards.

    Attached is a screen capture that illustrates the issue. Just let me know if I should open an XMetaL Support ticket for this one. Please note how the user is editing the first and the small buffer of JP characters appears outside the normal context. When the user presses enter, the characters appear as expected in the , but the users should be able to see them inline as with other languages. Thanks again.

    This suggestion was really close and led me to the right syntax, which is:

    [xml|lang |= 'de'][class~=”topic/note”]:before {
    content: “Anmerkung: “;
    font-weight: bold;
    display: inline; }

    Thanks as always, Derek!
