UPDATE – the expected reinstall didn't happen. But, I'm no longer treating this as an XMetaL problem as such.

When an editor was working from home for a couple of months last year, we found that the problem didn't happen anymore. And this was with exactly the same machine and same XMetaL install. Also, everything was much faster when connecting remotely to our network, rather than when locally. It appears we have a specific issue with our network being extremely slow sometimes. It's still not clear exactly how this could cause a crash in XMetaL – possibly a network operation timing out at some point during the build? But anyway, XMetaL is not in the frame for this one anymore.

UPDATE – I've edited the file DitaRenditions.js and this seems to have fixed the problem. Let me know if anyone wants the details.

    Hi Derek

Thanks for the reply. I must say I was a bit puzzled by the name of the dll – it just didn't sound like it should be involved. I'll try reinstalling and see if that fixes it. I'll let you know the outcome – it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to do it.

    Hi Geoff

I haven't got an answer for you but I'm getting the same issue. My custom build makes a number of output files but there isn't one with the same name as the original map. I've not attempted to output a dummy file so far, but I don't really want to – the output files are web pages and I don't want to be generating any output that doesn't belong on the web server.

I'm also using XMetaL 6.0 with a new custom build, so I can't say what happens with earlier versions.
