Reply To: Map Editor Menu/Commands in XMetaL 9 MinisculeJune 3, 2015 at 9:48 pmParticipants 0Replies 198Last Activity 5 years, 11 months ago
I remember running into this a few years back.
Check the Text Size setting in IE:
1. Open IE
2. Open View menu (Alt+V)
3. Expand Text Size sub menu
4. Ensure Medium is selected.
I think that setting only affects text with no CSS font size defined. I bet it will fix small font on web pages you may have occasionally noticed.gcrews May 3, 2015 at 1:15 am

Is that a standard windows theme? The left hand minimize/maximize/close icons don't look familiar.gcrews March 1, 2015 at 6:37 pm

Sounds like it might be your CMS connector that is creating the temp files and not cleaning up.
That being said, here is a similar problem i posted about nearly 4 years ago:

Reply To: Mouse Scroll Line CountApril 18, 2014 at 10:22 pmParticipants 0Replies 198Last Activity 7 years ago
I guess I should have tried that, I just assumed it was doing one line only. I see now that it does scroll faster if you set it the line count higher. It’s just alot less that everywhere else in windows. Comparing the scroll amount in Normal or Tag view to output, it seems to be about a 2.5 ratio.
I guess there is nothing I can do about other than set the line count really high like 9 and then have everywhere else in windows scroll to much per tick. I tried a few tricks but none seemed to work.
•Tried adding an onmousewheel event listener to the DOM node in a macro.
•Tried sending the WM_VSCROLL message to the Xmetal window.
•Tried changing the root DOCUMENT CSS class to a huge font and line-height.
•Tried disabling smooth scrollinggcrews April 3, 2014 at 7:48 pm

I noticed it like the first day of using Xmetal and just chalked it up to a quark. I've had the same behavior occur before in other places in widows before (cant think of exactly where right now) so I knew right away to try the right-click context menu. I've had to teach writers the trick a number of times though.gcrews December 17, 2013 at 11:20 pm

Perfect works exactly as I needed, Thanks for the help and quick reply. I would have never thought about creating a duplicate range selection variable or even knew to use the ExtendTo method.gcrews December 5, 2013 at 7:28 pm

You might check and make sure that you don’t have any large zip files on your desktop such as the DITA-OT. I found that they can cause XMetaL to be very unresponsive.gcrews December 2, 2013 at 10:20 pm

Thanks for the quick reply. I have not done any customizations to XFT forums. I tested a few things you suggested and here are the results. The test file I was using as well as many others we have are recently converted XHTML files to DITA.
XMetaL(R) Author Enterprise – 220.127.116.11
Refreshing references when opening topic disabled
1MB DITA 1.1 XML file
Initial Load Time: 2min 50sec
After removal of table with 509 xref's: 2min 02sec
After removal of remaining 655 xref's: 1min 45sec
After removal of all customized CSS: 1min 35sec
After removal of MCR's & CMS connector: 1min 30sec
After empty concept_ditabase.css: 1min 02sec
Disabled spell check while typing: 1min 02sec
Cut file content in half(just a test): 30sec
Load Time for original XHTML file: 12sec
Is there any way to get opening, switching views, saving documents, …ect anywhere near the performance that we saw when editing XHTML documents? We were not exactly expecting the switch from XHTML files to DITA to take 12 times as long to operate in XmetaLgcrews November 20, 2013 at 9:54 pm

Welcome to the club, same issue happens for us about once a week for each user. It’s has been occurring for years for us now. Current solution, reboot until it works…
The only constant thing I have been able to narrow it down to is that it occurs more frequently on Mondays.
Xmetal 7 – output hangs
XMetaL stops responding when trying to generate a file
100% cpu on on output dalog

So I don’t suppose there is any way to change the undo functionality when having changed views either? This is particularly annoying when you make a change in normal view, switch to preview view, and then switch back to normal view. When you undo, you would expect it just to undo the changes you initially did, not switch back to preview.gcrews September 23, 2013 at 11:49 pm

We just use a customization script and it just pushes out a standard dita_options.xml to everyone’s computer that defines the 1.1 setting (DefaultDITAVersion).gcrews September 9, 2013 at 2:59 pm

You might check Tools > DITA Options > General Tab > Options button (next to Auto-assign element IDs).
