    Xmetal spellcheck is not working

    Hi,

    I'm using Xmetal Author Essential x64 11.0.

I have an .sgm file open in Tags On View and I tried to run a spellcheck using Tools > Spellcheck and using F7, except nothing happens.

I have tried repairing and re-installing the product, but still cannot get spellcheck to work.

Anyone have any ideas on what may be wrong?

    TIA

    No error messages are displayed?

It doesn't say “Spell check completed. Close Spell Checker?” (in the case where there are no spelling errors)

What happens if you enable “Check spelling while typing” on the General tab of the Options dialog? In a document with spelling errors you don't see any red squiggles?

To reinstall and make sure all the spell checking files are rewritten (in case something is missing or broken) you can try this:
    1. Uninstall.
    2. Delete this entire folder if it exists (that's where the spell checker lives):
    C:Program Files (x86)CorelSharedXMetaLWriting Tools
    3. Install.

    Hi,

It doesn't say Spell Check Completed. When I click Spell checker, the Xmetal window becomes inactive, as if the spell checker has popped up, however it is nowhere to be found.

It does spell check while typing…I can see red squiggly lines.

I can run Spell Check in Files – that works.

    I will try uninstalling again.

I have reinstalled Xmetal again – removing the Corel folder from Documents.
I deleted the folder specified, but that has not fixed anything.

    It's incredibly weird.

I found out that it is the Windows 10 1803 update that broke the spell checker (just for anyone else who comes across this issue)

I'll have a look and see if I can reproduce the issue.

Googling a little bit suggests that Windows update 1803 is causing a lot issues for some people, so unless there is a specific feature in there that you need it might be best to roll back and wait to see if Microsoft's next major update (or a patch for this one) doesn't break the spell checker before rolling it out to all users.

Apparently Microsoft deletes the files required to roll back after 10 days, forcing you to keep update 1803. Something to keep in mind before installing this Windows update.

I'm unable to reproduce the issue even with “Windows 10 Versions 1803”. It could be that Microsoft has altered the update, or it could be that the additional updates they installed at the same time corrected the problem. The only one that appears to be relevant (specific to Windows operations only) is KB4100403.

I've tried removing that update but so far Windows seems pretty adamant that it reinstall it again when I reboot my machine after uninstalling, so I cannot confirm if just updating to version 1803 triggers the issue, or whether having KB4100403 installed corrects it.

I installed KB4100403 but it didn't rectify anything for me.

I'll see if Xmetal 12 works because I can't rollback anymore

Xmetal 12 appears to have fixed the spellcheck !!
