April 30, 2009 at 8:23 pmMicrosoft claims backward compatibility for 32-bit applications (which XMetaL Author is):
WOW64 is the x86 emulator that allows 32-bit Windows-based applications to run seamlessly on 64-bit Windows.
So in theory (if you believe that) everything should be just fine. However, we do not claim to have fully tested any of our software on the 64-bit versions of Windows yet (either XP or Vista) so even though Microsoft says everything will be fine, we can't say there won't be any limitations.
We will eventually be testing this (we are getting a few queries about it) and fixing anything that needs fixing. There are two levels of support for this:
1) Fixing anything that needs fixing to run the 32-bit versions of our software without any issues on 64-bit Windows (in theory, if we trust the Microsoft claims there shouldn't be anything to do).
2) Creating a 64-bit version of the application so that it runs “natively”and inherits all the bells and whistles that 64-bit provides (there are memory benefits, some possible multi-processor enhancements and other things).Information on Microsoft's 32-bit app support in 64-bit versions of Windows is located here:
