XMetal 5.1 Doesnt start
August 10, 2009 at 1:35 pmParticipants 6Replies 7Last Activity 13 years, 5 months agoI am unable to get XMetal 5.1 to start – when I click on the .exe, XMetal shows in my Task Manager Processes but doesnt open.
This is frustrating because the only work around is to have my IT department reinstall xmetal.
Please advise.

August 10, 2009 at 8:32 pmThe following procedure sometimes works:
1) Select “xmetal5.1.exe” in the Task Manager.
2) Click the End Process button.
3) Try starting XMetaL again. If it persists, upgrading to XMetaL 5.5 might solve the problem.

August 25, 2009 at 9:39 amThanks Derek, you're always helpful. Its unfortunate that a bug like this doesn't have a patch issued especially when the cost of xmetal is very high.

August 25, 2009 at 8:43 pmThe main problem that caused XMetaL 5.1 to not start is fixed as of XMetaL 5.5. If you're still on maintenance, upgrading to XMetaL 5.5 is free.

August 31, 2009 at 1:09 pmHi Su-Laine Yeo,
No we are not on Maintenance. IMHO, this a programming bug, not an enhancement. Should be for free 🙂

September 1, 2009 at 11:27 pmPlease contact our sales team to see if the contract we have with your company will allow youto obtain the patch for 5.1. We have no problem providing patches to anyone entitled to them (which is why sales encourages clients to purchase maintenance). However, maintenance also entitles you to upgrades as well, which is the recommended action here, as the same fix (and many more) are included in the 5.5 and 5.5 SP1 releases.
