xep version
April 22, 2010 at 7:54 pmParticipants 1Replies 2Last Activity 12 years, 11 months agoIs it possible to get a newer version of the xep engine? I noticed the readme says 4.12 from April 2008. There is a feature (http://services.renderx.com/lists/xep-support/6233.html) I would like to use in 4.18 that was releases April 1 this year. I would not think there would be much to getting a newer version of the xep working with Xmetal.

April 23, 2010 at 11:57 pmWith a standard installation our installer places the copy of XEP that we license for your usage with XMetaL Author Enterprise in the following folder:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesXMetaL Sharedrenderx
You may be able to update that version with a newer release you might obtain from RenderX. If you did this you would need to make sure the following files are configured to support your updated version:
validate.bat
x4u.bat
xep.batChanges to these files might not be necessary but the files need to be there so the XMetaL Author Enterprise integration with the DITA OT and XEP can use them.
I'm just answering the technical side here. It might be a good idea to check with RenderX regarding license file compatibility and any legalities related to this.
We have not tested this so that would need to be done on your side.
I will ask our development team to include an updated version of XEP in an upcoming release.

April 30, 2010 at 8:58 pmI've confirmed this with our legal people who in turn have contacted and verified this with RenderX.
The agreement we have to bundle XEP with XMetaL Author Enterprise allows us to distribute a license.xml file for use only with the version of XEP we bundle.
So, if you wish to use a newer version of XEP you need to contact RenderX to obtain a new license to legally run it.
I think this is understandable to some extent. The cost to license XEP is not trivial when purchased separately from XMetaL Author Enterprise (so you are getting a pretty good deal when you buy our product I guess).
Again, we do plan to keep up to date with XEP, it is likely just a matter of time.
