Relationship Table – Must topic be saved as .dita?
February 3, 2009 at 1:04 amParticipants 1Replies 2Last Activity 14 years, 1 month agoHi all.
I have been playing around with the features of Relationship
Table, and I came across a simple question.Must the topics be saved as .dita extension? I tried saving the topic as .xml, and they are still able to link to one another (meaning that it works fine).
What is the difference between .dita and .xml.Thanks in advance.

February 3, 2009 at 5:18 pmThere is no difference between file extensions as far as XMetaL is concerned, for any type of DITA or any other XML type.
It is possible that some versions of the DITA OT may expect .dita for topics or .ditamap for maps, which would have implications regarding the generation of output. But I am not personally knowledgeable enough about to the OT to know about that for certain.

If this was true at some point in the past it is not true for the 1.4.x releases of the DITA OT. XMetaL Author 5.1 comes with 1.4 and 5.5 ships with DITA OT 1.4.2.1
