I was curious as to whether there is a way to keep the evaluation version from opening Welcome topic at startup. I haven't been able to find anything to toggle that off.

Also, in Tools>DITA Options>Update Content>Open Topics it appears as if the editor ignores the selection to ask me whether to open the topic for viewing or editing. Is this incorrect?

    Thanks.

To stop the evaluation version from opening the Welcome topic at startup you need to turn it into a licensed version (which is done by purchasing and entering a license key). This makes two changes to the product: the startup events that open the demo map and Welcome topic don't occur and your copy of RenderX XEP is given a license which stops it from putting the RenderX logo on each page when you generate a PDF from DITA topics or maps.

The option in Tools>DITA Options>Update Content>Open Topics to open topics for viewing or editing is specifically tied to CMS integrations. For this option to have any effect you must have installed a CMS integration designed to support “XMetaL Connector” that also supports DITA maps / bookmaps and understands the difference between “check out to view” vs “check out to edit” (the company that sells you the CMS integration can tell you this). This should probably be documented better in the Help so I'll look into that.

Thanks for the answers, Derek. I had suspected the evaluation version was what was opening the map and the welcome topic. I wasn't aware (or even thought to think of looking for a connection to a CMS) on that option.
