Pdf Customization
September 11, 2009 at 6:40 pmParticipants 0Replies 1Last Activity 13 years, 6 months agoI have made some changes to the varables for pdf output in “[FO_CUSTOMcommonvarsen_US.xml” this is the file that all the Xmetal help points to and shows how to edit. The files however in that folder have a bunch of header comments and says “WARNING: DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE !!!”. I am guessing that that information was just not removed when that customization file was created. Is that correct?

September 11, 2009 at 8:36 pmThis file is shipped as is without any modifications made to it — as if you had downloaded and installed it from the DITA Open Toolkit Project at SourceForge. So why this file warns against modification is unknown to me (and doesn't make any sense as far as I'm concerned).
I don't see there being any issues with making changes to this file as it is essentially a configuration type file (a list of variables that should be modifiable without breaking anything else, provided you don't muck up the standard structure). Without making changes directly to this file it would be fairly complicated to create a new file and redirect the DITA OT to use it instead.
