JustSystems Bolsters Content Contribution Capabilities in XMetaL Reviewer

Usability, Connectivity, Integration and Administration Features Round Out Upgrade

NEW YORK and LONDON — March 2, 2009 — JustSystems, the largest independent software vendor in Japan and a worldwide leader in XML and information management technologies, today announced XMetaL Reviewer 5.5, the latest version of the company’s collaborative XML document reviewing software. Reinforcing the central role of document review and collaboration in the overall authoring process, XMetaL Reviewer lets subject matter experts and others contribute content directly to the documents under review. The latest version of XMetaL Reviewer also gains usability, connectivity, integration, and administration enhancements.

“XMetaL Reviewer lets organizations fully harness the power of collaborative content creation, where a document is reviewed concurrently in real-time by experts who can comment on and contribute to that document, helping to shape and mold it in a controlled, iterative fashion,” said Aaron Deitcher, vice president of North America and EMEA for JustSystems. “With XMetaL Reviewer, document authors and reviewers become engaged, contributing members of the document creation community, letting organizations do more with less and more efficiently than ever before — a valuable capability given the current economic climate.”

    Collaborative Authoring Requires Robust Reviewing

XMetaL Reviewer moves the document review process beyond a read-only exercise that prevents reviewers from suggesting detailed edits to the documents being reviewed. Now, reviewers can actively contribute new content and rewrite entire sections of a document — a central process in document creation. Using the addendum editor, XMetaL Reviewer users with no knowledge of XML can contribute structured content, insert images, and create lists, tables, and whole sections for consideration as document modifications.

In addition to harnessing the expertise of document reviewers, XMetaL Reviewer offers users a consolidated view of all their suggested changes which are displayed to all reviewers in real time, as the changes are being made. An audit trail tracks all document changes, and an inline chat feature lets reviewers discuss content changes in real time.

Highlights of XMetaL Reviewer 5.5 include the following new features:

    • Transclusion support for DITA conref mechanism lets reviewers view content that is referenced in the document under review.
    • Arbitrary attachment support lets reviewers attach supplemental or supporting files to the relevant part of the reviewed document, providing another venue for making comments that are relevant but not intended for inclusion in the document itself.
    • Support for XMetaL Author Enterprise connectivity to many commercial content management systems (CMS).
    • SOAP interfaces extend the XMetaL Reviewer ability to integrate with corporate CMSs, workflow engines, and other enterprise systems.
    • New installation options and enhanced administrative tools.
    • Document images can reside under the separate (https) server.
    • Domain support for Active Directory.
    • E-mail services support not-authenticated mode.
    • Microsoft Vista support.
    • New reporting facilities.
    • Infrastructural technology updates.

    Pricing and Availability

XMetaL Reviewer 5.5 is available today with prices starting at $15,000 for the server and five concurrent user licenses. Additional concurrent licenses are $2,500 for five users.
