Floating indents in PDF

I'm using an evaluation copy of XMetaL Author Enterprise Version#: 6.0.0.122 and viewing PDF output with Adobe Reader Version 8.2.3

I'm seeing inconsistent indentation in PDF documents output from XMetaL. The standard layout indents text after lower-level headings, with additional indenting for list text. However, when a topic or list extends past a page break, the text sometimes returns to flush left or is indented more than it should be. You can find plenty of examples in the XMetal Evaluator Guide. If this is news to you, place a finger at the left margin and scroll down: The margin jumps back and forth within a single section or bulleted list.

In my test output, I've also noticed the same problem after inserting a flush left image.

Do you have a workaround for this problem, or will you be able to provide it in the near future?
Thanks.

Perhaps what you are seeing is that the margin width changes depending on whether it is on an odd or even page? See 'gutter'.

What we provide out of the box is not going to fit everyone's tastes or corporate requirements and you are free to customize the look and layout of the PDF, including margins, page size, or anything else.

Some of these things can be modified using a limited number of basic parameters that we provide for this purpose (see the Appendices in Help).

Some things will require making changes to XSLT files and we have a Professional Services team that specializes in this type of work. They can provide you with the necessary XSLT (and XSL-FO) changes needed to make your PDF output meet your exact requirements for layout, styling, and branding. Our sales people can put you in touch with them if you are interested: http://na.justsystems.com/content-about-contact-us

Thanks for the quick response. What you say makes sense. We'll look into optimizing the PDF output for onscreen display and printing.
