I made a DITA specialization (new topic types and sections) and I need to use domains like the highlighting domain. The online help says, that these domains are not for specializers, but what can I do to use these domains?

    Thx a lot

The DTD file of your own topic specialization should contain a line

The STRING-WITH-DOMAIN-DEF contains entities defined int the .ent files of domain.
If you only want to include highlighting domain then “&hi-d-att;” will do it. We allow all standard domains plus our own domains (all starting with q-…) and the string for us looks like this
    “&ui-d-att; &hi-d-att; &pr-d-att; &sw-d-att; &ut-d-att; &indexing-d-att; &q-doc-d-att; &q-category-props-d-att; &q-confidentiality-props-d-att; &q-show-base-d-att;”
    Hope this helps.
Note: the suffix -d-att is a DITA convention and should be used for any new domain.

I don't believe our documentation talks about how to create a specialized DITA DTD other than to refer people to the DITA Architectural Specification. It would be interesting to know what you have read that would suggest this so we can remove that from the documentation.

If the DITA Architectural Specification is difficult to get through there are lots of resources that try to help understand it. There is a page here that points to a lot of other resources:
    http://www.ditausers.org/tutorials/specialization/

In particular, I like the one written by Eliot Kimber, also linked to from that page. It is located here: http://www.xiruss.org/tutorials/dita-specialization/

There is a page in the DITA Arch Spec that specifically talks about the differences between structural and domain specialization here that may also be of use (if you do not wish to read the whole spec): http://docs.oasis-open.org/dita/v1.0/archspec/infodom.html

I think  it was the highlighting domain because its difficult to get through there are lots of resources that try to help understand it.
