Controlling whether automatic map-based links display based on output type
August 31, 2012 at 6:25 pmParticipants 1Replies 0Last Activity 10 years, 5 months agoIn our current configuration, we only have automatic links (list of child links) at the beginning of a chapter. So in the unit maps, we set the root topic to have linking source-only and all of the other topics to be target-only.
For PDFs, this is OK, but for WebHelp output, when a unit map has additional levels it would be nice if the stub topics included links to child topics.
If we just update the unit maps so that all topics with children have linking set to “normal”, we end up with all of the links in both places, which is too much clutter in a PDF. Also, in the TopLeaf PDF output we use, lower level topics end up with links back to their parent topics.
Is there a general way in XMetaL to “conditionalize” these lower level links to only occur for specific types of output?
One option that's been tried is to add reltables to the online map only, but that could be a maintenance nightmare in the long term.
Thanks,
Janice
