Can’t open or create ditamap: It tries to open a web page in the browser..
February 16, 2011 at 12:46 pmParticipants 3Replies 4Last Activity 12 years, 1 month agoHi
XMetal 5.5.
Was working fine. Came back to it after a couple of months. Now when I try to open or create a ditamap, I get a prompt from my browser saying do I want to open or save ditamapmanager.html, and in the resource manager I get a message to say navigation was cancelled.
I have reset the workspace.
What else can I do?

February 16, 2011 at 11:44 pmTo start, can you let us know which version if Internet Explorer you are running and whether or not a CMS integration is installed?
Please also let me know which version of Windows you are running XMetaL Author Enterprise 5.5 on: XP or Vista. The Map Editor is rendered inside a copy of Internet Explorer that is embedded in the Resource Manager. There aren't any known issues that sound like this with any specific version of IE installed, but we should try to reproduce the issue with the same type of setup you have.
If you have not tried repairing or reinstalling XMetaL Author Enterprise that is the first thing I would try. Then we can be fairly certain that this isn't just a corrupted installation.

February 17, 2011 at 11:03 amWell it does seem to be an IE issue not a XMetal one!
I can't display the manager.html page in IE (I'm on Windows 7). This problem ('navigation canceled' for local files), seems a common one and isĀ very frustrating: I can display the fileĀ in FF or chrome, and I have tried IE8, IE9, have reset all IE settings, disabled non-MS services, etc., all to no avail…Is there a registry key or something else that I can set in XMetal to use a different browser to display this page?
Thanks and best regards,

February 17, 2011 at 9:07 pmThere is no way to use a different browser as we have specific functionality that works only with IE for this feature.
This was working previously for you though, right? Can you check with your IT people to see if they recently installed something that tightens the security (inside or outside IE) so that IE cannot open certain files? If so, they will need to adjust things for you. This is the first report from anyone about this issue so it would be good to know what the actual cause is so we can try to reproduce it here and see if there is a way for us to work around this.
I'm a little bit surprised that our software would be affected however. We don't actually embed the full IE browser, just the ActiveX component known as the “WebBrowser” control (this is used by a lot of Windows subsystems in addition to software like MSN Messenger and other things that want to render HTML inside their product), but I suppose WebBrowser may be affected in a similar way.

February 18, 2011 at 10:21 amInstalling IE9 RC fixed the problem!
Thanks taking the time to help me even when it was clearly not a problem in XMetal.
Best regards,
