The two products are the same except for the following additional features included with XMetaL Author Enterprise:

DITA authoring
Integrated copy of the DITA Open Toolkit
Integrated and fully licensed copy of RenderX XEP (for producing PDF via the DITA Open Toolkit)
XMetaL Connector (required for most CMS integrations)
Integration with XMetaL Reviewer

If you need one or more of these features you need XMetaL Author Enterprise.
