November 4, 2010 at 8:11 pmThe problem was a corrupt sub-font (Arial italic) which was indirectly called by the linked css (font-family:sans-serif;) and caused the freeze while XMetaL tried to render this.
Spyro, I am experiencing the same or similar symptoms. How did you diagnose and fix the corrupt sub-font?
