how to put style with span/div in document body?

I need to save style in xml document so that at the time of transformation I shall be able to get those style for the part of the document. Or in later date if I go to open that document, will get the style set previously. So through script changing the "ContainerStyle" will not fullfil my requirement. So I am embedding html style in xml file. I am able to put <b></b> there. but when going to put <span></span> then it is not rendering the document when showing in XMetal author. It is showing the span tag there. So is it possible to come to a solution?

We need to back up a little bit here. It sounds like you are working with a document that looks like HTML or maybe borrows element names from it.
Which DTD or Schema are you authoring to and do you have a set of customization files for it (DTD/XSD + CSS + CTM, etc...)?
