I'm using XMetaL version 6.0.0.079 and am trying to configure the PDF output for a DITA bookmap using the XMetaL Enhanced PDF via RenderX XEP option. I have tried modifying several xsl stylesheets in xmfo/Customization, but do not see any changes in the output.

I've read previous posts about this issue that suggest modifying files at SoftQuad\XMetaL, but my SoftQuad\XMetaL\6.0 folder is empty.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Try SoftQuad/XMetal Shared/DITA-OT/...

I don't have a SoftQuad/XMetaL Shared folder. Is this something I need to create, or should the install have created it for me?

IIRC, the default installation should create C:\Program Files\Common Files\XMetaL Shared.    Alternately, you might want to look in C:\Users\<username> AppData\SoftQuad  (in my case, it's AppData\Roaming\SoftQuad).

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...

The only thing I can think of is that you have never generated output (using the menu items File > Generate Output for DITA Map.../Topic...) or you have never selected the menu item Tools > Configure Output.

Both of these actions trigger XMetaL Author Enterprise to deploy the DITA OT to your %appdata% folder.

The installer does not do this deployment because it assumes the software is being installed for "everyone" and not necessarily for the person that installed the software (this person is very often an IT administrator or deployment script that will never use it).

Is that the case?

P.S. on Windows XP the full path of the %appdata% folder is:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SoftQuad\XMetaL Shared\DITA_OT

The first time you generate output, XMetaL will copy the contents of:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\XMetaL Shared\DITA_OT

to:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SoftQuad\XMetaL Shared\DITA_OT

I decided to re-install XMetaL and finally realized that the administrator had hidden folders, including Application Data. Sorry, I should've thought of that right away. Anyway, issue resolved. Thanks for your help!
