PDF TOC - Display of Hierarchy Levels?

Hello,

When generating PDF output (both Enhanced PDF via RenderXXEP and Enhanced PDF via RenderXXEP and Acrobat Distiller) I used to have a Table of Contents that displayed the hierachy levels of the map, i.e. top level headings showed up in boldface, and second and third-level headings were indented.

Out of a sudden, the indents are gone, i.e. first level headings are still in boldface, but subordinate level headings are not indented any more. I am not aware of having changed anything.

Which is the file (I think we use standard configuration) where these indents are defined? And what should it look like? Or does the display of subordinate topics depend on the proper DITA markup?

Hi Karin,

The problem could be either with your document or with the DITA Open Toolkit files. I suggest first trying to generate output using a different document, such as the sample files that you can access through the Help menu.

If those files have the same problem, you can usually get a fresh copy of the DITA Open Toolkit in XMetaL 5.5 or later as follows:
1) Back up the following folder, then delete it: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SoftQuad\XMetaL Shared
2) Generate output again. The copy of the Open Toolkit that is in C:\Program Files\Common Files\XMetaL Shared will be automatically copied to the Documents and Settings folder, and XMetaL will use that copy when generating output.

If you haven't made any changes to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\XMetaL Shared folder, and if you haven't changed your xmetal.ini settings since you installed XMetaL, this should work. If not, please let us know.

Hi Su-Laine,

thank you for your help! I tried out your suggestions, i.e. I used the sample DITA files from the Help menu to create new output, and I got this new DITA OT copy from XMetaL by deleting the old folder and generating output again. Unfortunatly: same results.

I tried to find the XMetaL.ini file but did not succeed. I'm sure that I did not change the settings of this file, but as we customized the system for our needs, we might have changed something without being aware.

Besides the TOC, another thing strikes me in the PDF: images and tables do not correctly fit into the page make-up, as they extend across page breaks, and strange frames around images and tables are visible.

To help us investigate more quickly, could you also please send me a copy of the PDF file that looks wrong, and a copy of a PDF file that looks the way you want it to look? Also if you could zip up and send me the files that you have customized in your XMetaL installation, that would be useful as well. I'm at syeo at justsystems dotcom .
