Using XMetaL Author Enterprise 6.0.1 and SP connection 2.0.0:
When I attempt to open a map from the SharePoint repository, I receive the following error message:
"The command "Open from Repository" could not be completed by "Core".
Details provided by "Core".
Error Code: 1
Origin: Core
Core Error: preparetoOpenResource failed
Adapter Error: N/A

If you have not tried reinstalling the software I would do that first.
1. Using "Add or Remove" Programs uninstall "XMetaL Author Enterprise SP Edition".
2. Run the cleanup scripts included with the "XMetaL Author Enterprise SP Edition" installer.
Alternatively, you may simply manually remove this folder: %appdata%\SoftQuad\XMetaL\6.0\CRCL
3. Install "XMetaL Author Enterprise SP Edition".
If that fails to fix the issue please submit a support case. I suspect that a WebEx may be the most efficient way to figure this out and a time for that would need to be scheduled with the support team / dev.

I was getting the same error message as cdybdahl, and based on Derek's suggestion I re-installed.
Now I attempt to open a ditamap from the DITA Exchange map library (SharePoint 2010), and although I don't get the same error anymore, the map never opens... Nothing happens. No error message, no opened map. Nothing.
I'll take you up on that WebEx session, Derek :-).
Thanks,

Oh - btw, I've got XMetaL Author Enterprise Version#: 6.0.2.070, and SP Edition Version#: 2.0.0.061.
This is connecting to SharePoint 2010 with the DITA Exchange CCMS extensions for managing / publishing DITA content.

You will need to contact XMetaL Support to arrange direct support that would include a WebEx.
I'm personally not familiar with the "DITA Exchange CCMS extensions" and have not seen it. I doubt that our QA people have looked at it yet.
If XMetaL Author is failing to open a DITA map coming from SharePoint and this other software is involved the first thing I would try is to eliminate it to see if the issue goes away (reinstalling our software might be necessary if this other software makes changes to your system). Contacting the maker would be best. If necessary they can work together with our development team (as a partner) to make the two systems compatible.
XMetaL should attempt to open any file it is asked to open. The worst case scenario is normally that an appropriate DTD or Schema cannot be located. In this case it will prompt you to browse for a DTD or Schema. I could see that occurring if 3rd party software was to change the DOCTYPE declaration so that the PUBLIC or SYSTEM id was one it doesn't recognize. However, it sounds like that is not the case here. It sounds like the file is possibly not even making it to XMetaL Author.
I assume you are using the "Open From Repository" menu item in the Repository menu to open the file? If so, it sounds like our integration with SharePoint has somehow been broken (perhaps the installation has been modified). However, if you are opening the file from within SharePoint via some other method then that would be outside XMetaL's control and anything could be occurring.

This is actually pretty funny, because I am attempting to connect to an instance of SharePoint that is running DITA Exchange as well. Because of other priorities, I have dropped this particular project for the time being.
Since I recognize Brian's name, I am going to assume that this problem is going to be solved for me in the semi-near future in any case. ;)
I am available to help troubleshoot if needed, and wouldn't mind being included on any WebEx that ends up getting scheduled between the two of you, as my organization (FIS) uses both XMetaL and DITA Exchange (though not together at this point).
