The Release Notes for XMetaL 6.0 indicate "Map Editor now supports keyboard commands for common actions such as adjusting selections, deleting selections and viewing a selection's properties." but the Help system does not indicate any keyboard shortcuts for those actions.

Are there any default shortcut keys or are they assignable through macros?

The keys are:
  Delete = delete an item
  Arrow keys = navigate
  Enter = open currently selected item (topic or map) for editing
