By default XMetaL Author Enterprise is set up to produce HTML output when you switch to Page Preview (aka: Browser Preview) and render it in that view. This setting is controlled on the "Preview" tab in the Configure Output Options dialog, accessible by selecting the "Configure Output" option on the Tools menu. Please refer to attached screen shot.

You may select only from "deliverable types" that produce either HTML or PDF as the output format. Internet Explorer is used to render the HTML output in this view and the Adobe Reader plug-in for Internet Explorer is used to render PDF.

Note: if you are not working with DITA documents then the solution will be very different because the DITA OT and our integration with it cannot be used in that case. Configuring this for other DTD and Schema types requires additional configuration.

Thanks Derek for the info.

Iam not aware of DITA and do not know how to use them, also DTD.

Please provide steps for this configuration that would be more helpful.

When I preview for Page Preview it shows the content in text format, excluding the titles and other formats, only the heading shows correct but remaining content shows as simple text.

Thanks,

[If you are not working with DITA then you should post to the board called "XMetaL General Discussion" and not "DITA and XMetaL Discussion" which is reserved for questions specific to DITA functionality. I will be moving this posting to the appropriate board.]

For your own customizations (any other DTD or Schema besides DITA) complete information for setting up HTML and PDF output is contained in the XMetaL Developer Programmer's Guide.

Enabling this feature for a given DTD or Schema requires you to create at least one macro. The relevant section in XMetaL Developer Programmer's Guide that documents this is called "The Formatting Object interface". It contains a number of sub-topics related to various helper functions we provide to help with HTML and PDF generation. The Programmer's Guide is included with XMetaL Developer but we also provide a copy on our website for download.
