version 6.0 spell check consider case?

Is there a  way to make the XM 6.0 spell checker consider the case of Word/phrases that i add to the UWL? For example, i wish "A.M." to be replaced with "a.m." or "IPAD" to be replaced with "iPad" etc.

The left column in the UWL list is case insensitive and as such only accepts one entry. I don't think that's what you are asking though.

Have you tried adding the following (see screenshot) to the UWL list to see if you get the behavior you want? I assume it will. If not then I think we need more information. In the screenshot it shows "IPAD" on the left and "iPad" on the right.

I see what might be at play here that might confuse things. The UWL replace list is only one part of the spell checking. In general when using the spell check dialog words in ALL CAPS are left alone.

In addition, when a word is capitalized (when the first letter but not all letters are capitalized) and that word is replaced the case of the first letter stays capitalized. So, the particular scenario you are looking for, a direct switch from "IPAD" to "iPad", or "Ipad" to "iPad", isn't supported by the spell checker dialog because these other capitalization rules mess things up.

The best you can do with the spell checker might be the following I think:

Before:	After:
iPad	iPad
ipad	iPad
IPAD	IPAD*
iPAD	iPad
iPaD	iPad
IpAd	IPad**

* Full caps is retained.
** Capitalization is retained.

For these types of non-standard English words (probably mostly modern brand names I suspect) it may be best to simply add their proper spelling to the UWL and then use Find and Replace to actually fix them.

Also, is there a way to insert special characters in either column? For example "delta" to "Δ". I tried entering it just like that but it replaces with "?" instead of "Δ". My feeling is that this is not supported...

No, unfortunately the spell checker isn't able to support this. I'd like it to, but for that I think we're probably looking at replacing the entire engine (and that is being considered).
